SEO is Not Flat

Did you know that SEO is not flat? It isn’t just black and white words placed on a web page and forgotten about by website owners.

Today’s SEO is multidimensional.

Today’s SEO includes how-to guides and tutorials, podcasts and videos, images and infographics, online store and courses, membership sites and eBooks, social media websites and newsletters.

SEO is a vibrant world of color and education that is focused on solving problems and providing a positive user experience.

Today’s SEO isn’t about throwing up a quick website on Wix or Squarespace. It isn’t about WordPress templates or plugins. Those are just tools in an overall SEO process that helps website and blog visitors.

SEO has evolved and at a very rapid rate.

The smart marketer will have many tools at hand to assist in their SEO efforts. They will focus not just on keywords and pages, but they will use a variety of tools to enhance their SEO activities.

I remember when I first started blogging and everyone thought I was crazy. I was an early adopter of blogging and it was not the norm. Back then internet marketing was just taking off.

At that time news was still read via a paper document that arrived to your door. But that has changed. A lot has changed actually. Now people read more news online then anywhere else. And news is SEO and SEO ends up being news.

Those stats are amazing right?

Back when I started with SEO, advertising was spent on magazines, billboards, and TV commercials. Now companies are moving more and more of their advertising money towards social media and search engines. Why? Because that is where their users live each day.

  • Snapchat users watch 6 billion videos every day
  • US adults spend an average of 1 hour, 16 minutes each day watching video on digital devices
  • 78% of people watch online videos every week, 55% watch every day

SEO is no longer a linear process.

There is an SEO process, but it takes place in a variety of mediums and it is exists in an amazing wold of diversity.

SEO is about helping people online. Solving their problems and answering questions is the key to success. Combine that activity with a plethora of content types and you reach the pinnacle of search success. Ignore the diversity and you sit sadly on a far out page of results that no one visits.

SEO has changed and the SEO process has adapted.

The internet is no longer the online version of our phone book or library card catalog. It is now a living and breathing beast that changes at an alarmingly fast rate. But that means it is powerful.

And it is magical. SEO is magical and empowering.
